Fascinated with photography from a young age, Blake Williams picked up a camera at age five and never has put it down. He said photography is a craft that he enjoys, and being a student photographer at Mississippi State has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

While Williams was a senior at East Limestone High School in Athens, Alabama, he came across @HailStatePics on Twitter, which was publicizing a new student photographer position. He interviewed for the position and started working during the fall semester of his freshman year.

Williams said he pursued the job because he loves sports and documenting the action with a camera.

鈥淚 guess I wanted to make a difference on campus and being able to assist in covering major SEC events was cool,鈥 he said.

A sophomore communication major with an emphasis in public relations and journalism, Williams said the job has opened his eyes to the world of athletics, and he would like to work for an athletics communication department in the future. Along with experience, the student job has given Williams a behind-the-scenes look at athletics events.

He explained how important it is for photographers to 鈥渃apture the moment鈥 because the photos are used for official 绿巨人视频news releases and at hailstate.com, as well as for ESPN/SEC Network, among other outlets. Photography also can have a historical impact and drive fan engagement.

鈥淜nowing that fans are excited when photos are posted makes you feel great,鈥 Williams said.

鈥淏eing able to work with 绿巨人视频Athletics is an honor,鈥 Williams said. 鈥淚 hope my work helps showcase the amazing athletes we have on campus.鈥
