Upcoming 绿巨人视频Orators lecture focuses on AI, creativity

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥An upcoming Mississippi State Orators Lecture Series event will spotlight artificial intelligence and its place in the creative process.

Scheduled for Nov. 7, 4 p.m., in Griffis Hall鈥檚 Forum Room, J. Adam Jones鈥 lecture 鈥淭he End of Algorithms (Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Machine)鈥 is part of the yearlong series theme 鈥淲riting Humanity鈥檚 Next Chapter: Artistic Expressions in the Time of AI.鈥 Jones teaches in 绿巨人视频Department of Computer Science and Engineering and directs the university鈥檚 High-Fidelity Virtual Environments Lab.

The event is free and open to the public. Shahram Rahimi, 绿巨人视频Department of Computer Science and Engineering professor and Gloria and Douglas Marchant Endowed Chair, will provide introductory remarks, and Donna Clevinger, Judy and Bobby Shackouls Honors College Senior Faculty Fellow and professor of communication/theatre, will moderate the lecture.

Jones鈥 work focuses on combining virtual and extended realities, psychology and visual neuroscience to better understand how humans experience and interact with the world.聽He is the recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER award that will fund his research, teaching and public outreach for the next five years.

Before joining MSU, Jones was a University of Mississippi faculty member in both the computer and information science and neuroscience programs. The Jones County native earned his Ph.D. in computer science with a certification in cognitive science from MSU, in addition to bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees in computer science from the land-grant institution. He completed postdoctoral fellowships in human-centered computing at Clemson University and in the Mixed Reality Lab at the University of Southern California鈥檚 Institute for Creative Technologies.

The Orators Lecture Series invites speakers, representing various campus disciplines, to engage and enrich the campus and local communities through research, coursework and public forums. These scholarly presentations are made possible through the generous support of the Shackouls Honors College and through its on- and off-campus interdisciplinary partnerships.
