ORED accepting 2023-2024 Faculty Leadership Internship Program applications through March 31
MSU鈥檚 Office of Research and Economic Development is now accepting applications for the 2023-2024 Faculty Leadership Internship Program (FLIP) through March 31. After launching a successful pilot program last fall, FLIP will continue with a two-semester program to provide faculty an in-depth, first-hand experience that broadens and deepens understanding of the university research enterprise.
Participants will spend time learning about all facets of research administration and select an assignment aimed at strengthening areas such as interdisciplinary research, emerging opportunities, diversity and inclusion, undergraduate research, or other projects identified by the applicant.

The 2022-23 FLIP cohort included Dr. Charles Freeman, associate professor in the School of Human Sciences; Dr. Stacy Haynes, professor in the Department of Sociology; and Dr. Bindu Nanduri, professor in the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences.
鈥淧articipating in the Faculty Leadership Internship Program provided a unique opportunity to engage with staff in each of the ORED offices,鈥 Haynes said. 鈥淚t expanded my view of the resources available both at 绿巨人视频and within the community, and I鈥檝e been excited to share this information with everyone I鈥檝e encountered over the last few months. I also enjoyed learning about the challenges facing research administration from a different perspective. Even more so, I enjoyed how responsive everyone was to the suggestions we, as faculty, made to address these challenges.鈥
鈥淎s an intern, I learned about the scope and breadth of research-related activities supported/carried out by ORED that are truly amazing,鈥 Nanduri said. 鈥淔or example, besides offering support services that cover all aspects of a proposal lifecycle, community engagement and developing partnerships also fall under ORED supervision. I found ORED leadership to be genuine, knowledgeable, approachable, and service-oriented, which enriched my experience. Global competition in research and education mandates leveraging existing intellectual and infrastructure resources for enhancing research capacity and innovation, and my experience has given me the confidence that ORED is ready and able to provide the necessary support.鈥
