Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵmoves Tuesday afternoon classes to remote instruction at 4 p.m., cancels campus activities due to weather

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ’s Starkville campus will move to remote operations Tuesday [Nov. 29] at 4 p.m. with all classes moving to a remote instruction format due to an abundance of caution over predicted regional severe weather. 

Other campus activities are canceled for the afternoon and evening at the Starkville campus. MSU-Meridian will move to remote instruction at 4 p.m. with other campus activities canceled. Late-shift employees should not report to work unless contacted by their supervisor. Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵplans to resume normal operations on Wednesday, Nov. 30. 

The Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵWomen’s Basketball game against the University of Louisiana-Monroe will be played in the Humphrey Coliseum, but the venue will be closed to all but essential personnel with no spectators. The visiting team is already in Starkville, but due to ongoing construction and safety concerns exacerbated by the severe weather threat, the university has decided to close the concourse. The floor level provides immediate access to safe space for the players, officials, and other essential personnel.

The National Weather Service is predicting potentially dangerous weather which could produce extreme conditions such as large hail, damaging winds, and potential long-track tornadoes in Northeast Mississippi.

The university encourages all students and employees to review instructions for coping with severe weather at . Those on campus should follow the building or Residence Hall safety instructions specific to their location. Starkville campus residence halls remain open. Faculty, staff and students are urged to use caution to ensure personal safety. 

Monitor the Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵwebsites and social media for updates. Follow and closely monitor Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵMaroon Alert on social media. Monitor local news outlets for changing conditions and advisories. 

Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵDining will offer service Tuesday as follows: PODs in Hathorn and Dogwood, 8 a.m.-10 p.m.; Fresh Food Co., 10:30 a.m.- 9 p.m.; Subway, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Moe’s 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Other Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵdining facilities will be closed, including those in the Colvard Student Union beginning at 4 p.m.

Mitchell Memorial Library, the Longest Student Health Center and the Sanderson Center will close at 4 p.m.

All SMART routes will continue to run normally until 4:30 p.m. if weather conditions allow. A warning and/or imminent severe weather in the area could prompt immediate suspension of all SMART routes earlier than planned.
