STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State’s popular Chadwick Lake Walking Track is the site Tuesday [Oct. 4] for the university’s 2016 Pink Dawg Walk to promote breast cancer awareness.

Sponsored by the Department of Health Promotion and Wellness, the event will take place 4-7 p.m.

Educational stations located along the way will provide free information on exercise, nutrition and self-examinations. A variety of pink-themed snacks will be available.

Also, the first 350 participants completing the circuit will receive a T-shirt.

JuLeigh Baker said breast cancer survivors planning to attend are being encouraged to pre-register in order to receive a complimentary goodie bag.

“The Pink Dawg Walk for breast cancer awareness is a great community and campus event for all to come out to celebrate survivors, and also to remember those who lost their battle,” the department’s health and wellness educator said.

Breast cancer is most common among women, with one-in-eight U.S. women being diagnosed with the potentially fatal disease in their lifetime, Baker noted.

Happily, there currently are more than 2.8 million breast cancer survivors throughout the world, she added.

To pre-register or obtain additional information on this year’s Pink Dawg Walk, contact Baker at 662-325-2141 or jbaker@saffairs.msstate.edu.

Chadwick Lake is located on the north side of campus, adjacent to the Sanderson Center and Bryan Athletic Administration Building.
