STARKVILLE, Miss.—Nearly 50 works by 24 current Mississippi State art majors and one alumna are on display through March 18 at The Arts Center of Mississippi in Jackson.

Now in its 66th year, the Mississippi Collegiate Arts exhibit is part of statewide juried competition for student artists enrolled in the state’s four-year colleges and universities. The annual event is designed to showcase the high quality of visual arts education taking place in Mississippi higher education.

This year’s contest drew more than 930 submissions from nearly a dozen institutions. Of that number, 46 entries by ̾Ƶart majors were among 138 judged worthy of inclusion in the exhibit.

Richard Doubleday, assistant professor in the graphic design program at Louisiana State University’s School of Art, was juror for the 2016 MCA competition. He selected five ̾Ƶstudent works for Juror’s Awards, one each in the Painting, Sculpture, Drawing, Graphic Design and Time Based Media categories.

MSU’s 2016 MCA Competition exhibitors and winners included (by hometown):

BAY SAINT LOUIS—Junior Aubrey J. Pohl, concentrating in graphic design and photography.

BELAIR, Maryland—Senior Lorianna A. Livingston, concentrating in graphic design.

BILOXI—Senior Ian F. Green, concentrating in graphic design, who also received the Juror’s Award in Graphic Design for his work, “Kenzo Tange.”

BRANDON—Seniors Kierre Dawkins, concentrating in fine arts; and Anna R. Zollicoffer, concentrating in graphic design.

CLINTON—Junior Brennan P. Crosby, concentrating in photography; and sophomore Carly A. Melton, undeclared concentration.

COLLIERVILLE, Tennessee—Senior Jordan R. Hankinson, concentrating in graphic design.

FLORENCE, South Carolina—Senior computer science major Candace B. Moreau.

FOXWORTH—Haleigh E. Parker, a fall 2015 magna cum laude art/photography graduate.

FULTON—Senior Alleigh T. Moffett, concentrating in graphic design, she also received the Juror’s Award in Sculpture for her work, “Shell Phone.”

HATTIESBURG—Senior Shawna J. Williams, concentrating in fine arts.

JACKSON—Senior Zachary S. “Zach” Boozer. Concentrating in photography, he received the Juror’s Award in Time Based Media for his work, “Goshen.”

LITTLE ROCK—Junior Abbey E. Rigdon, concentrating in graphic design.

MADISON—Concentrating in graphic design and photography, sophomore Anna K. “Katie” Erickson received the Juror’s Award in Painting for her work, “Fragile”; and seniors Nicolette L. “Niki” Johnson, undeclared concentration; and Gerard Woods, concentrating in fine arts.

NEW ALBANY—Senior Casey E. Jennings, concentrating in graphic design.

OCEAN SPRINGS—Senior Jillian N. Wilson, concentrating in fine arts.

STARKVILLE—Junior Kamau J. Bostic, concentrating in photography; and senior Jinwon Kim, an art/undeclared major. Also an architecture master’s and magna cum laude business administration/finance bachelor’s graduate, Kim received the Juror’s Award in Drawing for her work, “Untitled 1.”

TERRY—Senior Kimberly R. Eady, concentrating in graphic design.

TUPELO—Sophomore Alex P. Cayson, undeclared concentration; and junior Matthew B. Rogers, concentrating in graphic design.

YAZOO CITY—Sophomore Catherine E. Remington, concentrating in graphic design.

The Arts Center of Mississippi is located at 201 E. Pascagoula St. Viewing hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and noon-5 p.m., Sunday.

Part of the College of Architecture, Art and Design, MSU’s art department is the longtime home of the state’s largest undergraduate studio art program. It offers a bachelor of fine arts degree, with concentrations in graphic design, photography and fine art (ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture).
